We are are set to bask in balmy temperatures of 22C this week as an Indian summer hits the UK following a weekend washout.
Patches of thick cloud cover and fog cleared overnight, leaving sunshine and dry weather that is set to continue for several days.
But those in the north will face more miserable weather, with gusty windy conditions and the odd patch of rain.
Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: "A north/south split developing through the middle of the week.
"In the south, temperatures will creep up day by day, until reaching a peak of around 22C on Thursday, before conditions become milder approaching the weekend.
"But in the north, conditions will remain unsettled throughout the week."
It follows two storms, with Ali lashing parts of the UK with 100mph winds.
Storm Bronagh brought 30mm of rain, with flooding warnings in place for homes and businesses in Derbyshire.
Unsure on when the third storm of the season will strike the nation, Helen added: "It will be a wet and windy day across all southern parts, so southern counties of England and possibly South Wales as well.
"But nothing like what we've seen with the storms earlier in the week, so just a fairly typical autumnal cloudy, wet day."
Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England can expect a "fairly chilly day with bright, sunny spells and showers", she added.
Temperatures will remain in the low teens, but conditions are expected to settle before rising to 22C by Thursday this week.
The hotter weather will continue into next weekend, with The Met Office projecting 20C on Friday.
The calmer conditions will be welcomed by Brits who have endured Storm Ali and Bronagh, which brought 78mph gusts.
A woman was rescued from her car by a hero passer-by after she became trapped in high waters in Yorkshire on Thursday.
Parts of Wales were badly hit by the downpours, with Bala in Gwynedd and Capel Curig in Conwy recording 58.2mm and 58mm of rainfall respectively over a 12-hour period stretching from Thursday evening to Friday morning.
