Doctor Who release new logo

The new Doctor Who logo has been release featuring Jodie Whittaker.

The actress stands in shadow at sunset with the TARDIS in the background.

On the official Doctor Who Twitter account, the shot was captioned: "A new era is dawning."

Fans seemed thrilled with the new logo with one writing: "The silhouette. She looks so powerful. What a legend."

More fans said they were on tenderhooks for the new series and said: "can't wait to see the Doctor back."

Others thought the letter 'O'turned on its side could be a subtle hint at the Venus symbol used to represent women.

Jodie was last year announced as the 13th and first female Doctor in the long running BBC show.

Her first appearance in the role came as Peter Capaldi's Doctor regenerated in the Christmas special.

But fans will have to wait until the autumn until the new ten-part  series of the show airs.

The Chase host Bradley Walsh will play companion Graham as he leads an entire group of people travelling with the  Doctor, while Mandip Gill will play Yasmin and Tosin Cole stars as Ryan.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall said: “The new Doctor is going to need new friends.

"We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family.

"They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor. Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show."

Jodie Whittaker added: "I am so excited to share this huge adventure with Mandip, Tosin and Bradley. It's a dream team!"

In a statement Bradley said: “I remember watching William Hartnell as the first Doctor.

"Black and white made it very scary for a youngster like myself.
